Some Camping Tips and Need-to-Know

- Always use a sleeping pad when the ground is cold (spring, fall, winter).  It's not just a luxury - a foam pad between you and the ground insulates you from the ground.  No matter how warm your sleeping bag, your body will absorb the ground's cold if you don't use a pad as an insulating layer.

- If you can't put your bare hand in your fire pit, palm flat on the ash, your fire isn't out.  Putting out a fire in the dark works well because you'll be able to see the glowing embers.  To put the fire out, wet it, stir it, and repeat until EVERY SINGLE COAL IS DEAD OUT.

- Raccoons are smart and dexterous.  Never leave food or containers around your campsite overnight.  A rope or cargo strap secured around a cooler keeps a raccoon from being able to open it. 

- Drier lint makes great tinder for your fire.  Save some in a film canister and keep it with your camping gear so you never forget to take it along.
