Click here for Kayak Polo! Kayak polo has hit Omaha! Games are now being played at Standing Bear Lake in Omaha on Thursday nights. This amazing "new" sport started out here in Omaha this past winter, whe the group played at the Prairie Life Center pool. Now that the water has warmed up, they've moved to Standing Bear Lake. Games are played on Thursday nights.
There
is no organized league play. Instead, there are several scrimmages on
Thursday nights. Participants can put together their own teams or be
assigned to a team at the lake. You'll need to let the organizers know at
least a day in advance if you'll be fielding your own team.
Each Thursday night, there will be several games of advanced play and at least one game of "no tackle" play. At least one beginner-level, "intro-to-kayak-polo" game will be offered. All players are required to sign up and take the Intro class before they will be allowed to play in the other scrimmages. The cost for the class is $20 and reservations are required.
For scrimmages other than the Intro class, you can purchase a punch pass for eight games for $100. All equipment, including kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and helmets is included in the cost of the sessions.
Be sure to bring your family and friends and some food and drinks and plan to hang out for awhile after your game.
